It was time for a mantle update. The best thing about mantles is that you can change up the entire feel of a room by what you put on the mantle. The one piece I can’t seem to move is the great McCarty’s Pottery platter in the center. I was introduced to McCarty’s the first time I went home with Matt to Mississippi. Everyone there has tons of it around their house and it is so beautiful. An alternative to McCarty’s is Peters Pottery. Unfortunately, neither sells their pieces online (which is probably better for our bank account).

I have been debating adding board and batten to the upper part of the wall. Something like this…

What do you think?

Do you recognize these candle holders?

Reinvented candle holders

Yep, the scrap pieces that we cut off the candle holders for the pedestal tables. I added the jute around the candles as well.

Somehow I have begun to have an obsession with unique glass bottles. It started with the ships bottle (the one with the sand). I purchased it at a local antique shop for $5. Matt & I opted for a sand pouring at our wedding rather than a unity candle, so that is the sand inside the bottle. I used an old champagne cork to close it up. The neck of the cork was a too small but a little super glue did the trick. The other two bottles are courtesy of our Cinco de Mayo party.
